Remodeling More Than One Bathroom
Bathroom remodeling in Plantation frequently involves more than one room. The city was planned around space: the first homes went up in 1947 on East Acre Drive, sold under the slogan A Full Acre with Every Home, each with a 20-tree orchard. Later neighborhoods were built on smaller lots, but a typical established home here may have a primary bath, a hall bath and sometimes a pool bath, all from the same era and all showing their age together.
Planning a multi-bathroom project
When several bathrooms need work, the order matters. We usually suggest: 1. Start with the bathroom you can live without. Remodel the guest or hall bath first so you have a working bathroom when the primary is torn out. 2. Settle the plumbing plan for the whole house. If an old supply or drain line feeds more than one bathroom, it is cheaper to replace once. 3. Choose finishes together. Tile, fixtures and vanity tops can be ordered in one batch, which keeps colors consistent and avoids discontinued items between phases. 4. Set a realistic calendar. Each phase gets its own written schedule.
The primary suite
Most Plantation owners we talk with put the most money into the primary bathroom. Popular upgrades include a large walk-in shower with frameless glass and a bench, a double vanity replacement with more drawer storage, and new bathroom tile and flooring throughout. A rarely used built-in tub can become extra shower space or room for a freestanding tub, depending on the owner. A full bathroom remodel lets us rework the layout entirely when the room is large but poorly arranged.
Owners who plan ahead
Plantation has one of the higher ownership rates around: Census estimates put owner occupancy at 64.3%, with a median owner-occupied value of $483,500. Owners who expect to stay often ask for accessible and aging-in-place features built in quietly: a curbless shower entry, grab bar blocking, a handheld shower and a comfort-height toilet. Adding them during a remodel costs far less than retrofitting later. Tub-to-shower conversions in hall baths are common for the same reason.
Trees, shade and humidity
Plantation has been recognized as a Tree City by the Arbor Day Foundation since 1980 and has handed out landscaping awards since 1984. Mature trees are a big part of the city's character, but heavy shade around a house can keep bathroom windows and exterior walls damp. We pay close attention to ventilation and waterproofing so the shade outside does not translate into mildew inside.
Plantation Acres and other neighborhoods
Plantation Acres, annexed in 1973 and designated a Special Public Interest Rural District, has larger properties and often larger homes. The Jacaranda community, developed on land west of University Drive sold in 1964, has its own mix of houses and townhomes. If your neighborhood has an HOA, check whether it sets rules about contractor hours, parking or dumpsters before we schedule. Interior work rarely needs HOA design approval, but logistics often do.

Plantation History and Housing
- An acre and 20 fruit trees. Plantation Homes Inc. built the first houses in 1947 on East Acre Drive. The original plan offered single-acre lots with a two-bedroom house and a 20-tree orchard, and one such home, with an acre and 20 fruit trees, sold for $10,241.
- From ranch land to city. Frederick C. Peters bought roughly 10,000 acres in 1939, and Plantation incorporated as a city on April 23, 1953, with about 300 residents.
- Rural district protected. Plantation Acres was annexed in 1973 and designated a Special Public Interest Rural District to protect its natural landscape. The Jacaranda community was developed on about 5,400 acres west of University Drive that were sold for development in 1964.
- Ownership and value. Census estimates show 64.3% owner occupancy, a median owner-occupied value of $483,500 and a median household income of $92,541 (ACS 2020 to 2024). The 2020 homeowner vacancy rate was only 0.9%.
- Tree City since 1980. The Arbor Day Foundation first named Plantation a Tree City in 1980, and the city has given PLANT awards for landscaping since 1984.

Plantation Questions
Should I remodel all my Plantation bathrooms at once or one at a time?
Doing them in phases keeps a working bathroom available and spreads out cost. Doing them together can save on shared plumbing work and keeps finishes consistent. We will price it both ways so you can compare.
Does my Plantation HOA need to approve a bathroom remodel?
Interior remodels usually do not need design approval, but many associations set rules on work hours, parking and dumpsters. Check your community's rules and let us know so we schedule within them.
We live in Plantation Acres with a pool bath. Can you update that too?
Yes. Pool baths take a beating from wet feet and chlorine, so we use slip-resistant tile, durable fixtures and a well-ventilated layout. It can be its own phase or part of a larger project.
Do you serve Plantation from Pompano Beach?
Yes. Plantation is in west-central Broward County and within our regular service area.
